NO DOUBT, WE GOING... BACK TO THE CITY!!
In 2008, the event gathered 6000 hip hop fans and heads to the event. In 2009, the number increased to 7500, in 2010, we saw 9000 fans enjoying the culture of hip hop and last year the number went up to 11 500. 2012?!?! What do you have for us? On Friday the 27th of April, followers of this global phenomenon called hip hop will descend on Henry Nxumalo Street in downtown Johannesburg for the sixth annual “Back to the City†festival. I'm talking 37 hip hop artists, 12 DJs, 12 Graffiti Crews, 2 stages and all this at one huge venue! Newtown will commemorate Freedom Day with thousands of youth celebrating the holiday through Hip Hop music. The conept is to celebrate hip-hop and youth culture through an afternoon/evening of live performances, street art and exhibitions with the aim of bringing the youth back to the city. Showcases will be full of activities such as a Mini Educational Summit, live performances, skateboarding, bmxing, live graffiti art, merchandising and exhibitions. All the true culture of hip hop, because rap isn't the only element. Performing artists include HHP, AKA, Tuks, 5 time nominee Zakwe, Pro, Zubz, Red Button, L-Tido, Kwesta, Morale, Optical Ill, Reason and the list goes on and on!! The countdown has begun, April 27th, Outside Ritual Stores, Cnr. Bree and Henry Nxumalo Streets, Newtown, Johannesburg. The event starts at 10h00. All this for a simple price of R60. BOOM!!!
